CONVENTION INVITATION

On behalf of KASBO, I would like to invite all of you to join us in Hutchinson for our 34th Annual Convention. The convention committee has worked very hard to put together an educational and entertaining convention. With the recent success of the Winter Workshop in Salina (over 200 registrants), we are looking forward to a record number of registrants for the Spring Convention. Also, please note the financial benefit of an early paid registration!!

As you will see throughout the newsletter, there are a number of social events planned from golf to tours to hospitality room to dances. There are sectionals and mini-clinics that we hope will appeal to all segments of our membership, and there are speakers that will be both entertaining and educational.

Please join us in Hutchinson, April 22-24, as we are "Launching Toward the 21st Century."

Perry McCabe, President
USD 418 McPherson

Board Meets on January 30

The Board of Directors met on January 30, 1998 at the Hyatt Regency Board Room, with eleven members present.

1. Myrna Morrison was selected as Vice President to fill the vacancy created when Perry McCabe was moved into the position of President and Craig Fiegel was moved into the position of President Elect.

2. Perry McCabe, Craig Fiegel and Myrna Morrison are making plans to attend the ASBO Leadership conference to be held in San Antonio in February.

3. There was discussion about changing the membership year from July 1-June 30 to April 1-March 31. This would coincide with the KASBO convention registration and cause less confusion as to when members should pay their dues. The Bylaws Committee will be drafting revised language to be presented during the General Business Meeting at the KASBO Convention.

4. Beginning this year, there will be an early registration fee to encourage members to register and pay for the KASBO Convention in advance.

5. The Board took action on the meeting site for the year 2001. The site will be announced at the General Business Meeting.

6. Perry McCabe announced that KASBO now has a web site. The address is www.kasbo.org. (Perry and his staff are to commended for their hard work in getting this set up!) Back to Top

Winter Workshop Report

The Winter Workshop held in Salina February 18 & 19 was a huge success. The 202 attendees at the workshop gave the slate of presenters high marks.

The Federal issues presented, Wage & Hour, FMLA and IRS as well as Classified Personnel issues were of general interest to all school district personnel. The presenters were informative and answered questions from the group.

KASBO is fortunate to have among its ranks a cadre of members that are willing to take time from their busy schedules and prepare presentations on topics of interest to the membership. These active practitioners lend a great deal of credence to the audience. We thank them for their time and efforts.

The In-service committee is to be commended for developing outstanding workshop programs that meet the needs of the membership.

The In-service committee for the 1997-98 year was: Alan Schuler, Chairman, Myrna Morrison, Rod Dietz and Tim Rooney. Back to Top
