2009 KASBO President

Greetings from your 2009 KASBO President. I trust that I find you all in a more positive atmosphere as the Legislature and the Governor work through the current State budget and make plans for 2009-2010 and beyond. While not all the news contains budget increases in our areas, we are closer to a firm commitment so we can work with our negotiation teams and wind down another year.
Speaking of another annual event. I would like to personally invite each and every one of our KASBO members, and your co-workers who should be, to the annual KASBO Convention. This year we will turn our wagons towards, centrally located, Hays, Kansas on April 22 through the 24 circling them at the Hays Ramada Inn (formerly Holiday Inn). Many of you have rooms and more can be reserved. The Professional Development Committee, under the direction of KASBO President-Elect, Norm Wilks, has a meaningful program scheduled that will help you through all your concerns with the political, budgetary and nonsense issues that we all handle.

Also, don’t forget your boots and hats. What would a KASBO Convention be without barn razing hoedown? On Wednesday, we’ll start with our traditional Golf and Bowling tournaments and pre-convention workshops. Then, we’ll mosey on over to the Fanchon Club for drinks, vittles and a boot scootin’ boogey lassoed around a mechanical bull. The fun will continue with a non-traditional banquet program at the more elegant Fox Theatre on Thursday evening.

As you can see, you can wind down, dress up, circle the corral, and grow professional, all in one location. KASBO is always the best professional development opportunity available to Kansas’ school business officials. Please make your arrangements if you have not already. See ya’ out west!

This morning, the Governor's Budget Report for FY 2010 was released to the public. The Budget Report is published in two volumes. Volume 1 is a narrative summary of the Governor's budget recommendations, while Volume 2 presents the budget in detail by agency program.
